Professor Lara Estroff promoted!
We are very pleased to announce that Lara Estroff has been promoted to Associate Professor with tenure.
Prof. Estroff came to Cornell in 2005 and since then has established a research program in synthetic bio-inspired materials. Within this larger field, her lab takes three approaches: 1) the structural and mechanical characterization of naturally occurring biominerals; 2) the application of strategies learned from biology to create new materials with controlled materials properties; and 3) the design of in vitro systems to answer questions from biology. In particular, her lab is recognized as a leader in the study of crystal growth mechanisms in gels and their relationships to biomineralization.
Prof. Estroff’s teaching responsibilities include Materials Chemistry (MSE 3010) and her elective course on Biomineralization (MSE/BME 5620). She is also actively involved in with students in the department as the faculty advisor for WIMSE (Women in Materials Science and Engineering).
The department congratulates Lara and looks forward to continued successes in the future.
