Cornell Materials Society winner of Student Organization Award
The Cornell Engineering Alumni Association (CEAA) has chosen The Cornell Materials Society (CMS) as the winner of this year’s Student Organization Award. This award is given to an exemplary student organization on the basis of their outstanding service to the college or community, and for providing innovative programming and/or increasing student participation.
According to Jenna Lavine, President, the Society takes as its mission to engage undergraduate Cornell students from across disciplines who have an interest in materials and to provide services and produce events relating to materials science. For the 2016-2017 year, CMS has achieved an active membership of forty members, an increase from previous years in which the organization had twenty-thirty members. This increase reflects the work that CMS has put into increasing outreach and promoting membership. Additionally, CMS hosted more outreach, social, and corporate events than any other academic year. We participated in events like the Mat Sci Expo, Majors Fair, and the Materials Research Society Conference held in Boston this past November as well as hosted information sessions with Alcoa and 3M.
The group received $1000 at the CEAA’s Annual Awards Dinner held on April 28.
