2018 Distinguished Alumni Award Winner:  Professor Jim Hwang, Lehigh University

Jim Hwang graduated with a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Cornell in 1978. He is currently a professor at Lehigh University, prior to that he had 12 years of industry experience including IBM, Bell Labs & GE. Dr. Hwang is a Life Fellow of the Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers. We were happy to present Dr. Hwang with the 2018 Distinguished MS&E Alumni Award and listen to his lively talk of "How Did Cornell Prepare me for the Semiconductor Industry".

Eugene Fitzgerald

Merton C. Flemings-SMA Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at MIT. Dr. Fitzgerald received his PhD in Materials Science & Engineering from Cornell in 1989.

2015

Don Thomas

Author, Speaker and Former Astronaut with 4 space missions. Dr. Thomas received his PhD in Materials Science & Engineering From Cornell in 1982.

Karel Czanderna

President & CEO of Flexsteel Industries. Dr. Czanderna  received her PhD in Materials Science & Engineering from Cornell in 1984.

Richard Vaia

Branch Chief of the Nanostructured & Biological Materials Branch at the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). Dr. Vaia received his PhD in Materials Science & Engineering from Cornell in 1995.

Harriet Kung
