Faculty and Staff Awards and Honors

  • Shefford Baker, associate professor, was selected as a 2022 MRS Fellow by the Materials Research Society.
  • Julia Dshemuchadse, assistant professor, received an EPICC Award in the community category from Cornell Engineering.
  • Eric Dufresne, visiting professor, was elected 2022 Fellows of the American Physical Society.
  • Lara Estroff, chair and professor, was featured on the Academic Minute, a daily radio segment that airs on NPR affiliates and other public stations across the U.S. and Canada.
  • Emmanuel Giannelis, the Walter R. Read Professor of Engineering, was selected to lead Engineering Innovations in Medicine, a new initiative between Weill Cornell Medicine and Cornell Engineering.
  • Mostafa Hassani, assistant professor, received a National Science Foundation Early Career Development Award.
  • Debdeep Jena, the David E. Burr Professor, published the textbook “Quantum Physics of Semiconductor Materials and Devices.”
  • Lynnette Madsen, NSF program director and a visiting scholar whose Cornell appointment is shared by MSE, was elected a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering. She also received the 2023 Leadership Award from The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society.
  • Chris Ober, the Francis Norwood Bard Professor of Metallurgical Engineering, received the James M. and Marsha D. McCormick Advising Award from Cornell Engineering.
  • Marissa Porter, former graduate field assistant, was recognized with Cornell Engineering’s Zellman Warhaft Staff Commitment to Diversity Award.
  • Andrej Singer, assistant professor, received the Dorothy and Fred Chau MS '74 Teaching Award from Cornell Engineering.
  • Jin Suntivich, associate professor, received a 2022 Research Excellence Award from Cornell Engineering.
  • Christopher “Kit” Umbach, senior lecturer and associate director of undergraduate studies, received the Canaan Family Advising Award from Cornell Engineering.
  • Uli Wiesner, the Spencer T. Olin Professor of Engineering, received the Fiona Ip Li '78 and Donald Li '75 Teaching Award from Cornell Engineering. He was also featured on the Academic Minute, a daily radio segment that airs on NPR affiliates and other public stations across the U.S. and Canada.
  • Huili Grace Xing, the William L. Quackenbush Professor, received a 2022 Research Excellence Award from Cornell Engineering.
